I gave an interview regarding preservation framing with Christine Anderson of Guardian Art Services.
Have a quick read here: Guardian Blog
This morning I read an article by Hugh Phibbs, retired Coordinator of Preservation Services at the National Gallery of Art, I was reminded that the words Preservation and Conservation are not interchangeable. Preservation keeps the artwork or object in its current state. Conservation includes a restorative action, cleaning or touching up of degraded work. I work with highly talented individuals with degrees in conserving artwork and objects. My career is to keep the artwork or object in the condition I receive it (preserved) the best way possible.
Just something to ponder.
In other news, Milwaukee has passed the mandate for wearing PPE masks in public. If you are visiting and forget one, I have plenty here (I use for sanding and spray paint). I also have hand sanitizer (a gift from the wonderful Carrie of Lela Boutique) and I do clean the order table.
I also wish to give a reminder that if you are not comfortable coming to the Third Ward, I am welcome to pick up your artwork, design via zoom, email or text, and deliver when finished. Please feel free to call or email to set up times.
Starting Tuesday, June 9th, 2020 hours will almost be back to normal. I will be open Monday-Friday 10-6. Not this evening for I need to weed my veggie garden, which currently looks like a jungle, before rain from Tropical Storm Cristobel shows up.
Saturday and Sundays will be by appointment. Please call or email me to set up an appointment at least 48 hours ahead of time. I live an hour away in farmland so I need to plan. That does not mean I do not want to see you. I need to shower and get here to meet you.
I have a mask here. I will wear a mask if you come in wearing a mask. I want you to feel as comfortable as you need. Also, my sniffling is from allergies, so please do not worry.
Turn around for projects is about 2 weeks right now, if I do not have material in stock. Most of my vendors are opening up but are not at full capacity so receiving frames, glass and mat boards take a little longer than usual. Thank you for your patience on that. If we design with in stock materials and you have a time frame to work with I do everything I can to meet your need.
And thank you. All of you.
Here we are , two weeks later and Milwaukee and Wisconsin is opening up. I have been working, and I humbly thank my customers for keeping me busy by bringing their amazing artwork in for framing. I now have the door unlocked and the shop open for business Monday through Friday 10-5. I am following protocol where no more than five people in the shop at one time; though for that to happen would be uncommon! I will wear a mask if you come in wearing one. Once the Third Ward awakens to visitors and browsing, I will look at opening on Saturdays again. It does give me time to plant my vegetable garden.
First, thank you for all the support during the Covid-19 closure and stay-at-home restrictions.
I am back in the shop, and working on shop models, doing some cleaning and adding gifts and prints onto the website.
I currently am taking appointments for framing projects. You are welcome to visit. I have masks here if you do not have any and I clean the door handles, design table and Credit Card machine. If you are in the neighborhood and would like to have a private visit, just knock!
I also am offering curb side drop off and pick up, and also after hours delivery. We can have a design session via email, text, or FaceTime.
I don’t want to make this too long, because like you I gloss over all the social distancing information. It is everywhere and overwhelming.
I am here. Give me a call. Or an email. Contact, even if not physical is important.
All the best,
Sarah
